Healthy and Happy at Silveridge

A Visit with Robin Grant

By Dale Dauten

“I was literally going from the bed to the couch, the couch to the bed. I didn’t want to live like that…”

That’s Robin Grant, describing how she started her journey to deal with Lyme disease and ended up becoming a professional healer, with a string of certifications in alternative medicine therapies. She’ll be teaching a series of classes at Silveridge and also offering residents the chance to join a “sound bath.” Naturally, we had to know more.

We began by asking Robin how she came to her specialties, and here’s the full version of that story:

“My husband and I had a journey through Lyme disease. We didn’t get it at the same time — he had it probably for 14 years and I probably had it for about five. I’m sure I got mine from my dog, and he probably got his from being a distance runner – he ran in woods well known for ticks, and if you stop to sit on logs, that’s where a lot of the babies hatch. Because of that, back in 2003 or ’04, I was literally going from the bed to the couch, the couch to the bed. I didn’t want to live like that, so I just started searching all kinds of natural ways. We ran across a lady who did biofeedback where they send these frequencies back to the body. I trained under that, and that got me on another level, able to make changes in my life. I’m here today because of alternative health modes.”

Robin’s personal health journey eventually led to her seek out training in multiple therapies, including certifications in light therapy, sound healing, lymphology and biofeedback. She’ll be sharing her knowledge in a series of three classes. Moreover, she’ll also be offering “sound baths,” held in the Silveridge ballroom.

When we asked Robin what to expect at a sound bath, she said, “It’s very relaxing melodious frequencies of sound from different instruments, like chakra bowls and gongs and drums.” She explained that participants will sit in chair or lie on the floor and let the sounds wash over them, or maybe through them. As for those sounds, none are recorded – Robin produces them: “I have crystal chakra bowls, a gong, a crystal harp, crystal pyramid, steel drum, and other instruments.”

The result, Robin told us, is that, “The participants are just there relaxing, so this is basically like meditation. Some fall asleep —  some snore — some have emotional things that come up because it’s actually making cellular changes. Sometimes it’s a time to let things go. One of the biggest things everybody says they get the best night sleep ever.”
Another memorable session was when Robin worked outdoors, as shown in the photo: “I’ve done one at an amphitheater, which was really cool because as I was playing the crystal bowls, the frogs started singing. So, I played lot louder, and the frogs got louder. When I played softer, the frogs got softer. I wrote about it on the Sound Healers page and in no time there were 600 responses of people who have done it with nature, and they have different animals just showing up.”

As for the classes Robin will be teaching, we asked what a person might expect to learn. She summarized the series of three classes as, “The tips and tricks I’ve learned over 23 years of how to stay healthy without medications.” She explained that she hadn’t yet chosen the curriculum for each class but offered a top-of-mind series of possibilities: “I’ll be teaching exercises, like how to align the body: for instance, how to help your neck. We’ll talk about therapies, whether it’s essential oils, or Jin Shin Jyutsu, which is a polarity therapy. I’ll ask people if they have anything going on with their teeth, as teeth affect the rest of the body and a lot of times they get that taken care of and things disappear. I’ll share the techniques of Hannah Kroeger, a German healer who’s quite well known – she passed away, but I went to Boulder, Colorado to study at her institute.”

After that list of possible subject areas, Robin smiled and concluded, “I have the stack of different things I like to talk about. Each class will be different.”

Let’s end with a comment from Lu Way, Activities Director: “Robin has been great to work with and is always eager to share her knowledge and passion with our residents. She will often spend one-on-one time with each resident to personalize each session. I look forward to her returning to Silveridge.”
